About Us

Asha Legal Aid (ALA) is a not for profit group consisting law graduates; volunteers and legal practitioners who contribute their efforts as pro-bono to the marginalised section of Indian society aiming to help such people to claim their constitutional rights in the form of legal education; access to legal information; alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and restorative justice processes.

One should have a legal assistance without payment in any case where the interest of justice so require, if he or she does not have sufficient means to pay for it. ALA is committed to ensure in providing such legal assistance to the needy as pro-bono so that the vulnerable groups of our society can enjoy their rights including the right to a fair trial and the right to an effective remedy which is a precondition for exercising such rights and an important safeguard also that ensures fundamental fairness and public trust in the administration of justice. 

ALA does not engage itself for a claim or defense that is vexatious, frivolous or misconceived, or through a person with the resources to represent themselves or for whom other means of legal assistance are available.
